Most people look at lingerie as special occasion pieces. Since most of the functions behind many lingerie pieces have fallen out of practice, many of us look at them as ‘display’ pieces. Some individuals even claim that lingerie is misogynist! (The audacity…) But here we look at it as another elemental piece of our wardrobe. It can be worn daily, or not; it can be for a special occasion, or for no occasion at all!
It is such a personal thing to me, because of how having custom lingerie changed my life. And I want you to experience something similar. Here’s what you can expect when you come to Meiying Apparel for your custom lingerie.
Our Custom Lingerie Process
Backstory
Whether you are online or in person, we will begin with a discussion about you. We want to get to know you better before we get to making for you. Why are you getting custom lingerie? Is this your first time getting custom? What kind of pieces are you looking to receive? A lot of women seek custom because of an ill-fitting bra (Like me!), and they want something comfortable to wear daily.
There are others who need something specific for their needs. Women who have had surgeries, or other ailments and recoveries need underwear, too. We just want to get a clear idea of who you are, and what your needs are before jumping in. This will also give us an idea of design.
A Detailed Measure
Like I said, lingerie is intimate- so your measurements will be, too. Typically, your bust circumference and then your under-bust circumference is taken. Here we go a step further and measure your bust clip in three directions. We will measure both shoulders and both breasts individually in case of imbalances. We may even check for protruding ribs that may pinch under the pressure of standard bras. Please excuse our reach as our detailed measurements may be beyond your comfort zone.
Some measurements are particular to the design that you choose- for instance, if you want a waist cincher and a balconette bra, you will need different measurements from say, a thong and a bralette or bodysuit. We will always let you know what measurements are needed before we begin.
Materials in Balance
Now we will review materials. Perhaps you want something translucent- a power mesh, or a corset mesh? Or maybe you want something soft like brushed cotton? Something slinky, perhaps a genuine silk set? Now is your time to feel and choose. In person, we will present to you a series of fabric options that you can see and touch. When meeting online, you will have to order swatches to get a similar experience. We will make sure that your choices are perfect for the application planned and are suited to your tastes.
The Execution
Finally, we will part ways to perform our tasks. It can take 14 or more business days to finish your lingerie depending on the complexity. (We outline the possible timeframe during your consultation.) So, at that time just remember to relax. As your designer I’ll do my best to keep you updated throughout the entire process, and look forward to finishing your garment, just as much as you want to wear it.
We’ll carefully pack up your garment and discreetly ship it to you. Not that you have anything to be ashamed of! If you have any special packaging requests, we take those, too!
